The Resort

History

Kukagami is a beautiful, clear, spring-fed lake located about half way between the City of Sudbury and Lake Temamgami.

The first folks to set down roots at Kukagami were the tourist lodges in the late 1930's and 1940's. At that time, everyone came in by float plane or portage.

Serious cottaging began in the 1950s, and really took off once the road reached the lake around 1957. Most of the 100 cottage properties on Kukagami are still owned by the original families who built them.

Lake of the OwlPrior to 1949 the lake was called Koo-ka-gaming, named by the Cree and Objibwa. Kukagami is a 12 mile lake with depths of over 180 feet.

Kukagami Lake Means Lake of the Owl

Symbolically - the owl is present in many cultures as a messenger of great wisdom. The owl is said to be associated with intuition. The owl's energy is at its peak in the very heart of darkness. The owl can penetrate the darkness of the blackest night with its powerful eyes - seeing and hearing that which others cannot.
