Summer Activities To Enjoy At Sportsman’s Lodge, Kukagami Lake

An outdoor lover’s dream!

The warmer weather months in Northern Ontario are an outdoor lover’s dream!

Take advantage of all the great activities offered at Sportsman's Lodge Wilderness Resort during the summer, spring and fall.

Here’s a list of sports and activities that you can enjoy in and around the resort.

ATVing

Sportsman's Lodge Wilderness Resort offers access to hundreds of kilometres of marked and mapped trails for exciting ATVing.

The ATV terrain is suitable for all riders, from beginners to advanced. You can also try bush riding, some down in the dirt mud riding, or taking a scenic tour to the third highest point in Ontario, Wolf Mountain, with its spectacular lookout.

No permits are required for trail use, but please be safety conscious!

Canoeing

Canoe the beautiful Chiniguchi waterway Provincial Park, which encompasses 9368 ha of territory.

You can start your paddling adventure right at Sportsman's Lodge, then travel into the breathtaking wilderness of the high cliffs of Potvin Lake, then onto the exceptional crystal clear waters of Donald Lake and to the cascades leading to Wolf Lake. If you’re looking for a nice place to chill you can relax awhile in Paradise Lagoon at McConnell Bay.

These routes have some of the most spectacular wilderness scenery in Ontario!

Fishing

Whether you’re an avid fisherman or just like to toss in a line now and then, Kukagami Lake won’t disappoint. This 12-mile lake has depths of over 180 feet, with plenty of shoals, bays and holes to fish.

The lake offers excellent trout fish in early spring, with plenty of pickerel and bass year round

You can also venture into one of our back lakes for Pike and Musky by canoe. If you catch some fish and want to bring them back to the lodge, we’ll fry them up for you if you like!

Sportsman’s Lodge can also outfit you with 14’ aluminium Trackers including 20Hp motors, live well and fish finder.

Hiking / Walking

Spend an hour or two, or the whole day on the many kilometres of walking and hiking trails surrounding Sportsman’s Lodge. Reconnect with nature and enjoy some leisure time among the towering white and red pines, birch, maple, spruce and jack pine trees.

Our trails are abundant with wildlife and great for bird watching! Some of the birds you may see include a variety of woodpeckers, grouse, quail, hummingbirds and pheasant.

Kayaking

Try Kayaking! You can kayak the canoe routes and take in the breathtaking wilderness on the crystal clear waters or venture down the Wahnapitae River for a 20 kilometre kayaking day trip.

We also have kayaks and lifejackets available to rent by the day.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is always an adventure! For the advanced rider, we offer both a 7 kilometre and a 3 kilometre loop. For those who are looking for something a little easier, you can bike the old logging roads and take in plenty of scenery with streams, wildlife and small lakes.

Snorkelling

Spend an afternoon snorkelling around the many islands in Kukagami Lake. You just never know what you’ll discover under the surface of the lake!

Swimming

The lodge has a beautiful sandy beach with a very gentle slope and offers safe swimming. Kukagami Lake has refreshing spring fed crystal clear water. Once you’re cooled off, spread out a blanket and soak in the sun for a while on the beach.

Waterskiing

For those who like a little speed, you can waterski on the wide open bay where there’s plenty of room to play around in.

Other Outdoor Activities

Sportsman's Lodge Wilderness Resort offers a number of other outdoor activities right on site during the summer, spring and fall including:

  • Basketball
  • Bird Watching
  • Horseshoes

Hi

Im one of six guys that get together in early fall every year for a long weekend of fishing hunting cards and a few bevies. We’ve been doing this for well over 30 years and we’ve always referred to it as “Sportsmans Weekend”. So you can see why Im reaching out to you folks.:)

Can you provide us with a quick review of the fishing and hunting available there? When I say hunting, Im referring more to small game like grouse or rabbit.

We would be interested in renting a separate cabin from the lodge if available and be bringing our own boats.

Cheers!

Hello,

We have planned a backcountry trip that we will be staying on Matamagasi Lake primarily with some options for day trips etc...We have one canoe but would like to rent another and possibly a kayak.

We are a family of five with three teenaged kids and are quite experienced back country campers. Our travel dates for the trip are August 25-29th. We are also hopeful you might have an available accommodation for the night of August 24th as well, but understand if we are late planning that. Thank you and I look forward to your feedback.
